Week long Canoe and Kayak trip through the 84 mile section of the Rio Grande called the Lower Canyons. The Lower Canyons section starts at the far east border of the Big Bend National Park where for the next 115 miles the river has been given the designation of a Wild and Scenic River and therefore enjoys protection from further development. This area is the most remote wilderness area within the USA outside of Alaska and is the home to many native and endangered wild animals. This trip, the water was very low and the party carried all the major rapids because they simply could not be paddled. But, as you can see, we still enjoyed many of the whitewater features of this remote river.
